Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 28531 Cerulean Lane Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday, June 16th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on Cerulean Lane in the Oak Orchard area.  It was reported to be a structure fire.  Indian River’s Safety Officer Steven Hawkins immediately arrived onscene and identified a single wide manufactured home with additions, nothing showing from the exterior, but reported fire in the front on the inside and advised smoke and heat in the rear with everyone out of the residence.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility, as well as the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an interior evaluation and search, activate a fire suppression 1½” attack line, and well as natural ventilation at the current time.  Interior crews found a recliner type chair on fire and lit candles in the rear of the structure with a heavy smoke condition inside the residence.  Additional resources were assigned to ventilation with positive pressure fans and to continue with an interior evaluation.

Responding emergency apparatus were limited to units onscene with included Indian River, Millsboro, Mid Sussex, Sussex County EMS, and the Delaware State Fire Police.   Remaining responding units from Lewes and Millsboro were cancelled with many thanks!  Shortly, thereafter the EMS resources were reassigned to a cardiac arrest incident within the fire district.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control on River Road and Oak Orchard Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
