Nature: Firefighter Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Training

Location: Lewes Fire Department – Station #2

 

On Monday evening, June 12th, a cadre of firefighters from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company were invited to the Lewes Fire Department - Training Area at Station #2 to enhance their respective knowledge, skills, and abilities regarding firefighter rapid intervention team (RIT) training which provided the students with the skills necessary to rescue their fellow firefighter, should an emergency occur.

The training curriculum was taught via the Delaware State Fire School.  These training evolutions were intended educate the respective firefighter on the skills and techniques necessary to execute a rescue.  Topics reviewed included:  rescue planning, proper selection of equipment, entry and exit points as well as the various methods of rescue associated with the RIT purpose and function.  Essential communications were also highlighted with respect to the designated tasks of locating a down firefighter and pursuing the extrication measures in confined and hard to access areas.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company would like to thank the Lewes Fire Department and the Delaware State Fire School for making this environment available and allowing such endeavors to be pursued.
