Nature: Structure Fire – Assist Millsboro (83)

Location: 28292 Johnson Rd., Georgetown, DE 19947

On Saturday morning, April 29^th, the Indian River (80) and Georgetown (77) fire departments were alerted to assist Millsboro (83) Volunteer Fire Company with a structure fire on Johnson Road just west of Hurdle Ditch Road.  It was originally reported as a fire in the attic.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics.

Indian River units assisted the Millsboro Fire Company with fire suppression activities as well as manpower and water supply assignments. Responding EMS personnel quickly shut off the LP gas tanks to the residential structure before fire apparatus arrived.

It appears that a single family residential structure had fire showing in the attic area at the time of dispatch and while units were responding it was identified that fire was through the roof.  Additional emergency alerts included nearby mutual aid companies for standby and cover up assignments.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of Johnson Road for the duration of the fire.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
