Nature: Indian River Attempts to Ameliorate Wireless Signal Strength

City: Oak Orchard

On Tuesday morning, April 4th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company continued efforts to ameliorate and enhance wireless signals to eliminate dropped calls, poor reception, and eradicate slow data speeds that have plagued our Oak Orchard fire station for the past few years.

The wireless signal inconsistencies greatly reduce the efficiency of our apparatus computers and communication devices in the Station #1 Oak Orchard facility based upon poor or inferior signal strengths and data speeds.  Therefore, Indian River installed additional antenna and signal boosters to enhance these signal strengths and data speeds.

A cell booster is an electronic device designed to improve existing 5G, 4G, and LTE networks. They enhance call quality, signal strength, and data speeds.  A cell booster (also known as a signal extender, signal amplifier, or cell phone repeater) works by pulling in your existing outside signal, boosting it, and rebroadcasting it into desired areas. Cellular devices automatically pick up the amplified signal.

Boosters also work in reverse. The unit receives outgoing signals from nearby cellular devices and sends them to your closest cell tower, thereby increasing the odds that the signal reaches it without failing.

There are different types of boosters available targeting different needs and both devices are being utilized:

  • In-Building Signal Boosters – Designed for homes, offices, and commercial buildings.

  • Vehicle Signal Boosters - Designed for cars, trucks, RVs, SUVs, boats, and fleet vehicles.

Illustrated herewith are some photographs highlighting the efforts of our communication specialist – Terry Timmons with these initiatives.
