Nature: Vehicle Accident

On Monday, March 13^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of RC Carpets.  It was reported to be a DART Bus and sedan that struck the rear of the bus.  There were no passengers on the bus. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, assistance with patient stabilization, traffic control with the temporary closure of John J. Williams Highway, fluid and debris recovery, notification of supervisory personnel from DART, and incident mitigation.

It appears that the DART Bus was slowing for a traffic light and was struck from behind by a blue Hyundai Sonata.  The bus was not occupied with any riders. 

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
