Nature: Structure Fire

Location: HYD IN FRONT OF HOUSE

Address:  23719 Samuel Adams Circle Independence, DE 19966

On Wednesday, March 1st, Indian River (80) was alerted to assist Millsboro (83) Fire Company and EMS Services with a residential structure fire on Samuel Adams Circle in the Independence development off Indian Mission Road.  A neighbor called and stated that no one was home and the solar panels shortened out and fire on the roof the residential structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility and Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial incident size up, ladder to the roof pending arrival of aerial truck, disconnections of solar panels, assistance with operations and prepare for Tower to set up and access the roof area as well.  All crews assisted with the designated assignments and overall incident mitigation.

It appears that the solar panels caused a fire condition on the roof of the residential structure with no extensions into the residence.  Efforts to access under the impacted solar panels were effective for suppression efforts via water cans.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access limitations for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
