Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

Location: 25939 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, February 11^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident off John J. Williams Highway in the Plaza Drive shopping center near Giant.  It was reported to have a person struck by a vehicle.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics as well as the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization, identification and preparation for landing of the aviation unit, traffic control and overall incident mitigation efforts.

It was reported that a male subject fell in the parking lot; however, it appears that a male pedestrian was struck causing injuries.  It was determined that the aviation unit would not be utilized and a landing zone designation was cancelled.  The patient was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional services.  The vehicle remained at the incident location. 

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
