Indian River Appoints Melissa Bixby - Captain

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company as well as Chief Hayden Klinger are pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Bixby as a Captain.

Captain Bixby hails from the Long Neck community and resides in Winding Creek Village.  Melissa initially joined Indian River in January 1998 and pursued much of her training with great enthusiasm at the Delaware State Fire School to fulfill her requirements prior to pursuing her maternal instincts.  In November 2019, Melissa rejoined the fire service to continue volunteering and serving her community.

Melissa has pursued her officer training via the Delaware State Fire School as well as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) curriculum.  Melissa’s chosen profession is that of a Nurse and brings more than 20 years of active firefighting experience to the table.

Indian River is pleased to recognize Melissa for pursuing her chosen civic responsibility and volunteering as a firefighter and aspiring to be a Fire Line Officer. Chief Klingler identified that Melissa’s educational, professional, and experiential background prepares her to excel as an Officer representing the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company.
