On Tuesday afternoon, November 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian near the Weis Market in the Nanticoke Crossing Shopping Center.  Additional emergency medical response units included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper #2, and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, as well as the Incident Command 80 and Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments were to coordinate a landing zone assignment adjacent to the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, assistance with patient stabilization and packaging, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation.

A pedestrian was struck in the parking lot near the Weis Market and required medical attention.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control at the landing zone assignment and incident location.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Lewes man, 82, dies after being struck by octogenarian driver near Long Neck

A Lewes man, 82, died Nov. 8 after being struck by an 85-year-old driver at a Long Neck grocery store.

The Lewes man was pushing a shopping cart at 2:33 p.m. in the parking lot of the Weis grocery store on Route 24 when a Millsboro man, 85, struck the pedestrian with his car, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

The Lewes man fell to the ground and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, DeMalto said.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in a parking lot in Millsboro on Tuesday afternoon. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved in this incident.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Sgt. J.
