On Wednesday, October 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for washdown incident in the area of McDonald’s.  It was identified that a fuel tank become dislodged from a vehicle and drove to the McDonald’s parking lot.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Command 80-10 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.  Additional response included the Delaware State Fire Police, the DNREC Hazardous Materials Unit, and Brush #80-00 to assist DNREC.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, fluid and debris recovery, notification of DNREC Hazardous Materials Response, and traffic control.

It appears that a fuel tank on a JEEP Liberty SUV become dislodged when the motorist was traveling on John J. Williams Highway when she pulled off into McDonald’s to evaluate.

The DNREC Hazardous Materials responded for additional mitigation efforts.
