Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 34290 Cherry Ln Lewes, DE 19958

On Monday afternoon, May 4th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Milton (85) and Bethany Beach (70) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company with structure fire on Cherry Lane in the Angola community. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center was receiving multiple calls.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response assignments included but not limited to implementation of fire suppression attack lines, water supply operations, until incident command structures were functioning.

There were additional resources requested from the American Red Cross, the local utility company – Delaware Electric Cooperative, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC) officers, the Sussex County Paramedic, and the Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Initial reports identified a rapidly spreading fire through a recreational camper and exposure concerns to nearby residential structures, marine units, etc.  Downed overhead utility lines were problematic and hampered immedate access to specific areas.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
