Early Sunday morning, April 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road between then entrances of Pot Nets Bayside.

Emergency response units included Tanker 80 and Incident Command from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.

Upon arrival of emergency response units, it was determined a northbound Nissan Altima sedan left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle’s fluid heating the engine cause excessive smoking conditions. The occupant(s) of the vehicle were gone upon approval of emergency response units.

Upon authorization to depart from the incident location, Engine #80-3 backed off the shoulder of the roadway requiring the need for additional towing services to the scene.

The Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

While clearing the initial vehicle alarm, Indian River was alerted for a fire nature unknown in the vicinity of Hedley’s Way and Phillips Branch Road. This incident was determined to be a recreational fire.
