Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: Holly Mount Road near Indian Mission Road, Harbeson, DE 19951

Early Monday morning, March 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Holly Mount Road between Indian Mission Road and Beaver Dam Road. It was reported to be a three vehicle incident and an emergency responder from Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company was on-scene.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Incident Command 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck area. The Delaware State Fire Police were utilized to assist the with traffic control.

It appears that the vehicles were traveling on Holly Mount Road rounding a slight curve and the freezing temps and black ice conditions made traversing the highway treacherous. All vehicles collided as a result of losing control while traveling on the icy conditions.

The local emergency medical service provider did transport one of the vehicle occupants to nearby medical facilities. The specific section of Holly Mount Road remained closed for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

While returning to the fire stations, Rescue 80 came upon a second vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road that was caused by the icy roadway conditions. This accident was limited to property damage and all occupants refused any additional medical attention.
