Nature: Vehicle Accident Serious

Location: 24053 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday evening, January 31st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Holly Lake Road. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision with possible entrapment and vehicle reported on fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1, Rescue 80, and Utility 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. The Delaware State Police, the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics as well as the local emergency medical services provider also responded.

Emergency response crew assignments included the complete roadway closure of John J. Williams Highway with traffic detours, assist with patient assessment and stabilization if needed, vehicle stabilization, scene mitigation, and debris recovery.

It appears that a blue Jeep Liberty was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and was struck by a black BMW 335i. The Jeep Liberty overturned and came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway in a wooded area while the BMW continue traveling west before stopping on the shoulder of the roadway. Both vehicle leaked excessive amounts of fluids onto the roadway causing a hazardous condition. This section of John J. Williams Highway was closed for the duration of the incident. The local emergency medical services provider did transport some of the vehicle occupants to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures with the assistance of Lewes (82) and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire police units.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

UPDATED: Lewes Man Charged with DUI after Crash on Route 24 Saturday

UPDATED – 12:15pm– A Lewes man has been arrested for DUI after a crash last night on Route 24 in the area of the Holly Lake Campground. Delaware State Police say 31 year old Jeffrey Dorsey of Lewes was westbound in a BMW when he crossed the center line, struck a second vehicle and then went back into the westbound lane and rear-ended a Jeep Liberty which overturned. Dorsey was arrested and charged with DUI, 2 counts of vehicular assault and other offenses. The driver of the Jeep and a passenger were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Fire and EMS crews from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company were called for a vehicle crash just after 6pm last night on Route 24 near Holly Lake road. Officials say a Jeep Liberty was struck by a BMW. The Jeep overturned – both vehicles leaked excessive amounts of fluids onto the roadway and officials closed the road until the scene was cleaned up and cleared. Several people were taken to nearby medical facilities.
