Nature: Trash Fire

Location: 27424 Oak Meadow Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday, June 16^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a trash fire incident Oak Meadow Drive off Oak Orchard Road.  It was reported to be a resident burning a couch on the exterior of the residence.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included evaluation and investigation of the incident to ascertain the nature of the incident as well as the origin to permit a response from the appropriate authority – DNREC or State Fire Marshal.

It appears that the residential occupants were intentionally burning interior residential furniture pieces in their background before getting the attention of neighbor who called 9-1-1.  The fire was extinguished upon arrival of emergency response units.

Indian River notified the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center with the origin and the furniture was outside of the residence and requested that a DNREC Officer respond to the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated scene preservation measures pending arrival of the DNREC Officer.
