Nature: Pre-arranged Fireworks Standby Assignment – Pot Nets Bayside / Paradise Grill

Location: Pot Nets Bayside

On Wednesday evening, June 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided a designated standby crew for firework delivery and set-up as well as the firework display hosted by Paradise Grill in the Pot Nets Bayside development in Long Neck.  This assignment included:

• fully staffed engine crew assignment to cover the fire work delivery and set-up for the entire time before ignition, ignition, and breakdown – Engine #80-3;

• multiple staffed brush truck crews to assist with extinguishment, if needed; and

• fully staffed engine UTV crew to cover any need outside the firework staging arena.

Standby crew consist of a minimum number of firefighters, fully equipped and trained, SHALL be on standby outside the designated location to provide assistance or perform rapid rescue, if needed. Voice, visual, or radio contact is required between the Officer-in-Charge (OIC), the team members, and the Sussex Emergency Operations Center at all times during the event.

Indian River utilized the additional firefighter services of the Millsboro (83) Fire Company to accommodate this assignment.

The Delaware State Fire Police were assigned to coordinate traffic control at the Long Neck Road and Pot Nets Road intersection.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind residents to use fireworks with caution ahead of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

Included herewith is commentary regarding firework safety.  Now that consumer fireworks are legal to acquire in Delaware and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:

• Store fireworks in a cold, dry place.

• Do not make your own fireworks.

• Always use fireworks outside.

• Keep fireworks away from brush, leaves and any flammable substances.

• Have a bucket of water and a hose nearby in case of accidents.

• Do not point fireworks at anyone, even as a joke.

These fireworks were hosted by Paradise Grill to celebrate their 10^th Anniversary.
