Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: Sandpiper Drive & John J Williams Hwy., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, December 30th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the area of Sandpiper Drive. It was reported to be two vehicles, minor damage to both vehicles, but one occupant was a pending maternity patient.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included scene mitigation, assist with patient stabilization, perform vehicle stabilization measures, provide traffic control with closure of the westbound traffic and restricted traffic patterns for the eastbound traffic.

It appears that a silver Kia SUV was traveling from Sandpiper Drive and entered the path of a eastbound Mercedes Benz SUV. Both vehicles suffered minor front end damage while the expecting mother was transported to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance with the lane restrictions and closures.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
