Nature: Indian River Implements Duty Crew

On Saturday, May 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company implemented new standard operating procedures to allow the activation of firefighter duty crews which commenced on Saturday, May 14th.

A duty crew’s purpose is to provide an immediate response for any fire, rescue, and/or EMS emergencies within the specific fire district as well any request(s) to respond to a mutual aid incident.

Indian River’s inaugural duty crew included five (5) volunteers of which was a qualified driver, a qualified officer, three (3) qualified firefighters and at least one (1) member of the crew currently certified in CPR / AED.  The duty crew assignments include at least one (1) hour for training during the shift, one (1) hour for apparatus and/or facility cleaning, and other duties assignments.

This inaugural duty crew did fulfill the training, apparatus cleaning and facility cleaning assignments as well as responded to one emergency incident within the fire district.
