Early Thursday morning, May 12th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a structure fire incident in Fairfield of Long Neck.  It was reported to be an incident involving the hot water heater incident in the garage area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility and Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, limitation of emergency response units to Indian River, water extraction measures and ventilation.

It appears that the hot water heater had an electrical malfunction and burst fully suppressing any fire hazard that may have been developing.  The structure was vented to eradicate the smoke condition.

All units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
