Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 35697 E. River Dr., Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Sunday morning, November 23rd, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Millsboro (83) fire companies as well as the Sussex County Paramedics 106, and the Delaware State Fire Marshall were alerted for a structure fire with exposures on East River Drive, White House Beach off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a working structure fire, fully involved, with exposures to other nearby residential structures. It was also identified that these were seasonal residential locations with no occupants inside at the time of the incident.

Emergency response crews from Indian River included Incident Command 80, Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. Full company responses from Millsboro and Lewes were included. Stand-by coverage assignments went to Dagsboro (73) and Rehoboth Beach (86) for Indian River’s stations.

Emergency response crew assignments included immediate fire suppression attack lines to cover nearby residential exposures and venting propane tanks as well as initiate an aggressive attack. Additional assignments called for water resource establishments, additional fire suppression lines, interior residential evaluation of exposure properties, and manpower pool allocations.

Engine #80-3 was the initial arriving apparatus followed by Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 and coordinated initial assignments. Millsboro and Lewes resources were assigned to coordinate secondary exposure, fire suppression, and water resources.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigation.

It appears that both residential structures will be considered substantial losses.
