On Tuesday, April 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown / fuel spill incident in the Harris Teeter parking lot.  It was identified that a vehicle was leaking fuel with an estimated quantity of less than 10 gallons.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery with application of fuel absorbent materials as well as utilization of containment devices to isolate the leaking fuel.   Engine #80-1 was assigned to the hydrant pending additional delegation of tasks and when the situation was stabilized all units were released.

It appears that a green Chevrolet Tahoe was leaking fuel in the facility parking lot when the incident was reported to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
