Nature: Medical Emergency

City: Millsboro

Location:  Mount Joy Road

On Saturday afternoon, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to establish a landing zone for the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2 regarding a medical related emergency near Maryland Camp Road and Mount Joy Road.

Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units were initially dispatched to the area of Maryland Camp Road and Mount Joy Road for a possible gunshot incident with a specific request for all units to stage pending scene safety determination.  Emergency response units were redirected to Doc Frame Road and Mount Joy Road because the injured departed in a vehicle.

The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit did land near Doc Frame Road and Mount Joy Road pending determination if aviation transport would be needed. The injured was transported via ground units to nearby medical facilities for additional observation.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted the Delaware State Police with traffic control because the segment of Mount Joy Road between Maryland Camp Road and Townsend Road was closed for an extended period of time.

At approximately 9:15 p.m, the Delaware State Fire Police were released by the Delaware Department of Transportation who continued with the roadway closure assignment.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
