Nature: Vehicle Accident Serious

Location: John J Williams Hwy & Rosedale, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, September 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Rosedale. It was reported to be a single vehicle off the roadway into a wooded area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Emergency Medical Services (SCEMS) and the local ambulance service provider.

Emergency response crew assignment included vehicle stabilization, scene stabilization, assist with patient stabilization, and traffic control.   Engine #80-5 was cancelled while enroute to the incident.

It appears that a silver Mercedes SL550 was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and did not successfully navigate the sharp curves thereby running off the roadway into a nearby wooded and overgrown vegetation area. It appears based upon other motorists reports this may have been the result of the medical condition.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures with lane restrictions for the duration of the incident.

One person was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
