Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Judds Jetty 34715 Judds Jetty Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Saturday morning, August 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire on Judds Jetty in the Pot Nets Creekside development off of Long Neck Road. It was reported that the residents identified a fire within the bathroom exhaust fan that extended into the roof and ceiling areas of the residential structure.

Emergency response units included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard area as well as Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck area.

Emergency response crew assignments were to evaluate, mitigate and extinguish any extensions.

It appears the residential occupants were away from home and upon returning found a smoke condition being emitted from the structure. The occupants quickly extinguished any fire with a garden hose and called 9-1-1.

Upon further evaluation, it was determined that the significant burning resulting causing significant roof damage. Additional efforts to saturate the area were pursued.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall was notified to conduct an investigation and determine the cause of the fire.

It does not appear that the structure had any working smoke detectors at the time of the incident.
