Vehicle Strikes Pole Causing Long Neck Power Outage

On Monday morning, June 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road. It was reported to be a single vehicle striking a utility pole with power outages and wires down within the area. At the time of emergency operations dispatch it was unknown with types of injuries.

Emergency response units include Rescue 80 and Incident Command 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments include vehicle stabilization, scene stabilization, traffic control and scene mitigation measures, assist with patient stabilization where needed. The Indian Mission Road was closed for the duration of the incident with various intersections needing traffic control assistance as a result of the power outage.

It appears that t white Chevrolet pick up was traveling south on Indian Mission Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking a utility pole, causing the pole to snap and losing power to the Long Neck – Millsboro area.

The local emergency medical services provided pre-hospital emergency medical care and transported the vehicle occupant(s) to the nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control by closing Indian Mission Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

The Delaware Department of Transportation was requested to provide traffic control assistance at the incident location as well as various insections with traffic control devices.

BREAKING: Pickup Hits Pole Near Long Neck; Power OUT to Thousands

7:35 a.m.: A pickup truck has hit a pole on Route 5 near Route 23 in the Long Neck area causing a power outage to thousands this morning.

Power is currently out to more than 6,000 Delaware Electric Co-Op customers in the Long Neck and Millsboro areas.

No word yet on what caused the crash or the condition of the driver.

The crash happened just after 7 a.m.
