Nature: Vehicle Accident – Reported Serious

Location: Dash In Food Store

Address: 24851 John J Williams Hwy., Millsboro, DE 19966

Cross Streets: White Pine Dr/Ramp Entrance to Food Lion

On Saturday May 24, 2014, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident at the entrance to Dash In for a reported subject hit by a truck pulling a boat. It was reported serious in nature.

Emergency response units include Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency crews were assigned to coordinate traffic, provide assistance with scene mitigation, vehicle stabilization and patient stabilization if necessary. The John J. Williams Highway entrance to the Dash In was closed for the duration of the incident.

It appears that a black Nissan Altima sedan was in the entrance lane to Dash In while a silver Ford pickup pulling a lengthy marine vessel was attempting to access the same entrance lane while proceeding around the sedan. The pick-up cleared sedan; however, the vessel did not and wedged a pedestrian between the boat, boat trailer, and sedan. The pedestrian was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional evaluation pursuant to our information.

The sedan was pulled into the entrance lane pending evaluation of an earlier minor vehicle accident.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
