Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

Location: 27080 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Sunday morning, December 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway between Layton Davis Road and Rosedale Road.  It was reported to be single vehicle striking a utility pole with wires down and occupant entrapment.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility; as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, preparation for vehicle extrication, removal of vehicle windows for enhanced access, vehicle extrication with door removal, traffic control, fluid and debris recovery, assistance with patient stabilization where needed and overall incident mitigation.

It appears that a white Nissan Versa was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and left the roadway while rounding a curve striking a utility pole causing significant damage to the vehicle and entrapping the occupant.  The occupant of the vehicle was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional medical attention.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with closure of John J. Williams Highway detouring traffic along nearby roads.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
