Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1

Location: 32006 River Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, October 30th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue incident involving a car that entered the highwater conditions along River Road and became disabled.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-14 (also known as High Water Vehicle) with an inflatable marine unit and Chief 80-15 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included but not limited to accessing the disabled motorist, extricating them from their vehicle and transporting to awaiting EMS personnel for additional observation, traffic control, and incident mitigation.

It appears that a dark blue Infinity sedan was traveling along River Road and entered the standing tidal water conditions before becoming disabled in the highwater environment. Both occupants of the vehicle needed to be extricated and transported from the highwater conditions.  The highest priority occupant was extricated and transported first while crews returned for the last occupant of the vehicle.  Both persons were turned over to awaiting EMS personnel for observation.

The Delaware State Fire Police closed this section of River Road for the duration of the incident.

A towing service was notified to extricate the vehicle from the standing water conditions.
