Nature: Wires Down/Arcing

Location: 28492 Smiths Lndg., Oak Orchard, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday afternoon, October 28^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a wires down / arcing incident at Smiths Landing in Oak Orchard. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included identification of issue, notification of respective utility pole numbers, traffic control, and to await arrival of utility service providers.

It appears that a tractor trailer accessed the area and caught low hanging wires, ripping the residential electric services off two structures, as well as tearing telephone communication wires in half and loosening utility pole guide wires.  Delmarva Power and Verizon were notified of the situation with a response requested.  A neighbor provided photographs and related information of the tractor trailer to the responding entities.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with Oak Orchard Road closure pending arrival of Delmarva Power.
