Wilmington Fire Department Celebrates 100th AnniversaryOn Saturday, October 23rd, the City of Wilmington and the Wilmington Fire Department hosted parade to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Wilmington Fire Department. The parade was on King Street commencing at 10am and afterwards at the Wilmington Riverfront there was an antique apparatus display, firematic flea market, and water fire/rescue boat display.These events are happening throughout the City to honor these brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our communities every day.Indian River as well as many state and regional fire departments and first responder organizations attended the parade to commemorate such a milestone for the City of Wilmington Fire Department.Information about the City of Wilmington Fire Department…The Wilmington Fire Department is a career, professional fire department which was established in 1921. The department currently maintains six engine companies, two ladder companies, and a marine fire fighting force. The department is divided into two functional divisions, each under the command of a Deputy Chief: the Operations Division and the Administrative Division.In recent years, the department has promoted a ride-along program which gives city residents an opportunity to experience the functions of the fire department and evaluate possible career decisions. In addition, department officials have shown their commitment to providing the best emergency services delivery through the promotion of continuous training, active involvement with community associations, and implementation of a Customer Satisfaction Survey. |
