On Sunday afternoon, October 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road in the vicinity of the Shore Star Store.  It was reported to be a single vehicle versus a pole in the parking lot of the business entity.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization where needed, assistance with patient stabilization if needed, traffic control / scene access, and overall incident mitigation.

It appears that a red Chevrolet Pick Up was attempting to navigate the parking lot of the Shore Star Store off Oak Orchard Road and John J. Williams Highway and struck a protective pole protecting the corner of the building.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control during the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Millsboro man charged with 4th DUI, drug charges

A Millsboro man faces driving under the influence and drug charges after crashing his truck into a pole Oct. 3 in an Oak Orchard parking lot.

Delaware State Police were called to the Liberty Gas Station on Oak Orchard Road at 4:20 p.m after a red Chevrolet Silverado had struck a pole in the parking lot, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police.

Upon arrival, she said, troopers located the driver, Justin Black, 37, who displayed signs of being under the influence of drugs. Black refused medical treatment by EMS, and after a DUI investigation, Pepper said, he was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. A computer search conducted revealed Black had three previous DUI convictions, she said.

Police searched the Chevrolet Silverado and found 171 baggies of heroin weighing about 1.2 grams; 25 Ecstasy pills; about 39 grams of methamphetamine; five Alprazolam pills; 11 Clonazepam pills; $6,375 in suspected drug proceeds; and drug paraphernalia.

Black was taken into custody and charged with felon possession of a controlled substance tier 3 quantity; felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance tier 2 quantity; fourth offense DUI, a felony; and other drug charges.

Black was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $72,000 cash bond.
