Nature: Public Relations – Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters Commences 9/26

Location: Indian River Inlet

On Sunday evening, September 26th, Indian River’s Fire Prevention Co-Chairs – Robert Mamor and Roxanne Bammer coordinated a public relations media broadcast with our local television station – WRDE – to coordinate the commencement of “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.”

This Indian River Cohort has been diligently pursuing public awareness of this national campaign effort to Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters by having local businesses, residents, and landmarks to utilize red lights to highlight these recognition efforts.  Additional information may be obtained by viewing the following websites:  https://www.firehero.org/events/memorial-weekend/about/light-night-fallen-firefighters/  and https://www.chiefbackstage.com/cb/home#

The efforts of Robert and Roxanne have coordinated this commencement with the lighting of the Indian River Inlet Bridge in red.  As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will again glow in respect from September 26 – October 3, 2021, to the fallen firefighters and their families.

Illustrated herewith are some photographs to highlight the event.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Inlet Bridge, Homes Red for Fallen Firefighters

INDIAN RIVER INLET, Del.- Homes, businesses, and landmarks such as the Indian River Inlet Bridge are lighting up red to honor fallen firefighters.

From September 26th to October 3rd, everyone is encourage encouraged to illuminate their buildings in red as part of "Light the Night." The event coincides with National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company worked with DelDOT to get the bridge lit up and says the message means a lot.

"I've been a first responder a long time and anytime we see something like this, its sort of like the public's giving back a little bit to care for the heroes and the people who work every day in the trenches," Bob Marmor tells WRDE.

Harry's Hardware in Long Neck is participating, even having a complete fire prevention display. The hardware store is selling red light bulbs for people to use on their porches. Manager Alexandra Hiotis says "light the night" unites the community and is a sign of respect.
