Story

September 26 – October 3, 2021

We, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, ask you to please consider joining this effort to honor and reflect on the sacrifice of America’s fallen heroes by lighting up red during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.

Our Fire Prevention Co-chairs – Robert Marmor and Roxanne Bammer have been soliciting businesses, organizations, and residential households across our fire district to glow in respect of fallen firefighters and their families during the time period of September 26th thru October 3, 2021.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has contacted the Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) to solicit their assistance by lighting the landmark – Indian River Inlet Bridge in red for the period of September 26th thru September 30th and this request has been approved.

Landmarks and Fire Departments Across the U.S. Lit in Honor of Our Fallen Firefighters

Every October, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the official national tribute to those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.

In 2017, the Foundation created Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to recognize the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since then, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters has expanded to include fire departments and families lighting their homes in red.

As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will again glow in respect from September 26 – October 3, 2021, to the fallen and their families.

If you would like to light your home in red for Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters, you can buy red bulbs online using our Amazon Associates link* or contact local businesses that have pledged to have supplies available with favorable price considerations.

In closing, Indian River believes this would be an exceptional tribute to all fallen firefighters -- especially Delaware’ s Fallen Firefighters!

Thank you for your consideration and please join us to recognize these fallen firefighters!
