Nature: Structure Fire (Assist 85)

Location: Across From Allen's Harim Foods @ RoDi Heritage Farms

Address: 18752 Harbeson Rd., Harbeson, DE 19951

Early Saturday morning, January 18th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Georgetown (77), Ellendale (75), Memorial (89) and many other companies were alerted to assist Milton (85) Fire Company with a working structure fire Harbeson Road across from Allen’s Harim Foods at the RoDi Heritage (as known as Lawson’s Produce) property.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance to the manpower pool to await a specific fire suppression assignment; apparatus to the water supply operations which was to provide water to tanker supply operations for an aerial master stream operation.

It appears that a farm storage facility occupied with many pieces of farming apparatus, equipment, supplies, hay and vehicles were involved in the incident.  The facility did house various types of welding materials and had propane tank exposures.

The interior of the facility was heavily involved with fire and many vehicles, tractors, equipment were lost.   A 1949 stake body truck was pulled from the burning building and extinguished to permit preservation.

The Delaware State Fire Police closed this section of Harbeson Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.
