Nature: Carbon Monoxide Detector

Address: 26301 Timbercreek Ln Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday evening, December 22nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for carbon monoxide detector activation on Timber Creek Lane in the Long Neck Shores development off of Bay Farm Road.  This incident was reported via residential alarm company.

Emergency response units included:  Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments were to evaluate and identify the cause of the carbon monoxide detector activations as well as monitoring the gas levels within the residential structure.  The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center encouraged all occupants to vacant the residential structure prior to arrival of any emergency response units.

Crews implemented natural ventilation measures and utilized gas meters to monitor the gas levels inside the residence.

A comprehensive evaluation yield that the kitchen gas stove was partially turned on and the vehicle in the garage was left running.  Both factors apparently contributed to the alarm activation.
