Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1 - Assist Millville - Diabetic Issues - Whites Creek

Location: 38°34’135 and 75°5’53

On Sunday, July 4th, the Indian River (80) and Bethany Beach (70) volunteer fire companies were alerted to assist Millville (84) Fire Company with a priority water rescue incident involving two yellow kayaks and possibly one blue and white jet ski in Whites Creek area across from Cedar Shores.  It was reported to be a male subject with medical issue possibly diabetic difficulty.

Indian River Marine Units had just departed the various marina launch points (Massey's Landing & White House Beach) from an earlier water rescue incident and quickly turned around for this response. Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 responding to Massey’s Landing Boat Ramp and Brush 80 with 80 Marine 2 responding from the White House Beach Marina.

Emergency response crew assignments were to launch vessels and proceed to the area of Cedar Shores on a beachy area.  80 Marine 1 responded to the incident location and was assigned to stage in the area with the DNREC Marine Police Unit while 70 Marine 1 gathered the kayaks for transport to a local marina. Other marine units transported the male subject to awaiting EMS personnel.

All Indian River marine units and personnel were dismissed and permitted to return.

Millville’s Incident Command coordinated these response activities.

Additional information will be forthcoming when available.
