Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

On Saturday, July 3^rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Landing Road in Pot Nets Seaside off Long Neck Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.  It was reported to be a golf cart overturned with one male subject trapped with the golf cart on top.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80, Chief 80-15, and Incident Command 80 from the Oak Orchard area, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, assistance with patient stabilization, preparation for extrication, extrication measures with airbags utilization, fluid and debris recovery, incident mitigation, and scene preservation with limitation of bystander access.

It appears that a single golf cart was attempting to turn onto Landing Road, overturning, and ejecting the occupant who ultimately become entrapped with the golf cart. Rescue 80 was apprised to enter the development on the opposite side of the entrance lanes and prepare to utilize the Hurst Tools to assist with top removal of the golf cart.  Extrication measures included cutting the top off the golf cart and air bag utilization for lifting because of extremities being lodged with a tire and framing of the cart. One person was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observation.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police Aviation unit was down due to weather.  The Delaware State Police are investigating.
