Nature: Pre-arranged Fireworks Standby Assignment – Leisure Point

Location: Marina

On Friday evening, July 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided a designated standby crew for firework display hosted by Leisure Point in the Long Neck area.  This assignment included a fully staffed engine crew assignment.

Standby crew consist of a minimum number of firefighters, fully equipped and trained, SHALL be on standby outside the designated location to provide assistance or perform rapid rescue, if needed. Voice, visual, or radio contact is required between the Officer-in-Charge (OIC), the team members, and the Sussex Emergency Operations Center at all times during the event.

Indian River would like to remind residents to use fireworks with caution ahead of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.

Included herewith is commentary regarding firework safety.  Now that consumer fireworks are legal to acquire in Delaware and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:

  • Store fireworks in a cold, dry place.

  • Do not make your own fireworks.

  • Always use fireworks outside.

  • Keep fireworks away from brush, leaves and any flammable substances.

  • Have a bucket of water and a hose nearby in case of accidents.

  • Do not point fireworks at anyone, even as a joke.
