On Sunday afternoon, June 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a few incidents during an afternoon electrical power outrage in the area.

Initially, an alert for a carbon monoxide detector activation was received for a residential structure on Rivers Edge Road in the Stonewater Creek development.  An emergency response unit from the Long Neck facility – Engine #80-3 – was assigned to coordinate this incident.  This was reported to be a faulty detector.

Secondly, an alert for an alarm sounding in a multi-residential complex on Harvard Avenue in Carillon Woods.  It was identified as an elevator alarm in one of the apartment complex buildings.  An emergency response unit from the Oak Orchard facility – Tower 80 – was assigned to coordinate this incident.  This was an elevator alarm sounding possibly because of the power outrage.  After successfully opening the elevator on the third floor it was unoccupied.  The building maintenance personnel were notified that the elevator was locked out pending electrical power restoration.

Finally, an alert for fire police personnel to assist with traffic control at the John J. Williams Highway intersections of Long Neck Road, Bay Farm Road, and Oak Orchard Road during the electrical power outrage.  The Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police coordinated this assignment.

All units were permitted to clear their respective assignment pending incident closure or power restoration.
