On Sunday evening, September 22nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was originally requested to assist the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Squadron (USCG-IR) with a search of the Indian River Bay and the Rehoboth Beach Bay for a vessel in distress taking on water. The specific vessel information, incident location, and any other related information was unknown, not provided or determined.  It was reported by the USCG-IR that a radio signal was received and it was possibly a Sea Pro type vessel.

Emergency response units included: Utility 80-08 with 80 Marine 1; Brush #80-0 with 80 Marine 2; Utility 83 with Marine 83; Rehoboth Beach and their marine unit; Millville and their marine unit as well as the Delaware State Police Aviation Units (Trooper 2 and Trooper 4); USCG Aviation Units; and USCG-IR vessel; Engine #80-5; and Rescue 80.

Emergency response assignments included to coordinate and conduct search patterns in the Indian River and Rehoboth Bay areas. Rescue 80 was assigned to coordinate efforts from the Gull Point Marina; Millville’s marine unit commenced and coordinated their search patterns from Bay Colony; Rehoboth Beach’s marine unit commenced and coordinated their search patterns from the Dewey Beach area; and all other units commenced and coordinated their specific assignments from the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp. Aviation Units searched via air the Indian River and Rehoboth bay areas. The USCG-IR commenced and coordinated their specific assignments from the Indian River Inlet along the south shores of the Indian River Bay, Burton’s Island towards Gull Point and returning.

After a few hours the search patterns were called off and no additional distress signals or calls were received.

No additional information is available and all attempts to locate any vessel were unfounded.

The United States Coast Guard was to continue their search patterns and efforts.
