On Saturday, September 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for wires down on John J. Williams Highway between Oak Orchard Road and Layton Davis Road.

Emergency response units included: Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response assignments included to assist with traffic control and scene preservation as well mitigation of the wires down situation.

It appears that a white Chevrolet Pick-up was pulling a loaded, tandem axle utility trailer that began to sway and fish-tail and struck a telephone pole splintering it in half. The utility pole fell into the roadway causing a traffic hazard for both traffic lanes along John J. Williams Highway.  This section of John J. Williams Highway (Route #24) was ordered closed for the duration of the incident. The appropriate utility companies were notified and responded accordingly.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident. John J. Williams Highway was closed from approximately 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The were no injuries associated with the accident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

BREAKING: Route 24 Closed - Downed Utility Pole Near Mountaire in Millsboro

Route 24 is closed in the area of the Mountaire plant in Millsboro.  A utility pole was knocked down across the roadway after a trailer detached from the towing vehicle.  There were no injuries, however the roadway is closed until the utility company can render the wires safe to remove the pole.
