Nature: Structure Fire

Address: 27831 - 27899 Oak Meadows Dr., Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Friday morning, September 13th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire on Oak Meadows Drive in the Oak Meadows development off of Oak Orchard Road. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center was getting conflicting reports regarding the nature of the incident.

Indian River’s incident command arrived on-scene and identified one vehicle fire, fully involved with exposures to a second vehicle as well as the residential structure.

It appears that a Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV was involved in the initial incident which ultimately ignited the neighboring Ford Explorer with heat and flame conditions causing damage to the exterior of the residential structure.

Emergency response units included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency crew assignments were to activate an aggressive attack with two 1¾” fire suppression lines with foam and to mitigate the exposure concerns with the residential structure.

Additional emergency response units from Millsboro were directed to the scene and units from Lewes was assigned to provide standby coverage for Indian River at the Long Neck facility,
