Nature: Structure Fire (Standby Coverage – Gumboro Fire Company)

On Monday morning, July 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was requested to provide standby coverage for the Gumboro (79) Fire Company that was mitigating a working residential structure fire on Millsboro Highway west of their fire station in Gumboro.

Due to the intensive humidity and high temperatures, various Sussex County fire companies were alerted to respond to the scene which included: Gumboro (79), Frankford (76), Selbyville (88), Delmar (74), Millsboro (83), Dagsboro (73), and some neighboring companies from Maryland which were Pittsville and Willards.

Emergency response units from Indian River was limited to Engine #80-1.

Sussex County Fire Under Investigation Posted: Jul 15, 2013 12:45 PM EDT - By Kye Parsons

GUMBORO, Del. - The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is trying to determine the cause of a house fire in southern Sussex County.

The fire started at around 6:45 a.m. Monday on Millsboro Highway, near Collins Road in Gumboro.

The Gumboro and Delmar fire departments responded to the call. It took crews about two hours to get the fire under control.

There were no reported injuries.

There is no word yet on the estimated amount of damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
