Early Friday morning, July 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle collision on Long Neck Road in the vicinity of the Sandbar Tavern. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision with no additional information available.

Emergency response units included but not limited to Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

It appears that the Ford Pick up was exiting the Sandbar Shopping Center into the path of a Honda sedan that was traveling south on Long Neck Road. The Ford pick up was struck on the driver’s side causing side airbag curtain deployment while the Honda sedan suffered extensive front end damage.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, where needed, debris and fluid recovery, as well as traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the traffic control measures while the Delaware State Police conducted their investigation.

IRVFC Responds to Crash on Long Neck Road Friday Morning

Indian River Fire crews were called for a crash on Long Neck Road early Friday morning just after 1 near the Sandbar Tavern.   Officials say a Ford pickup was leaving the Sandbar Shopping Center and drove into the path of a Honda that was southbound on Long Neck Road.  The pickup was struck on the driver’s side – causing the airbag to deploy.  The Honda suffered extensive front end damage.  The extents of injuries – if any - are not known.
