Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

Address: Bay Farm Rd & Sandpiper Dr., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday evening, June 25th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Bay Farm Road adjacent to the entrance to the River Breeze development. It was reported to be a single vehicle that struck a telephone pole and possibly on fire.

Emergency response apparatus included Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate the fire suppression activities utilizing the 1¾” fire suppression lines from the engine; assist with patient stabilization, if needed; providing vehicle stabilization once the fire is extinguished; and coordinating traffic control for the duration that the roadway was closed.

It appears that a red Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling north on Bay Farm Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking a telephone pole and catching fire. The occupant of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle but did require additional evaluation at the nearby medical facilities in Lewes.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
