Nature: Trailer Fire (Structure Fire)

Address: 4 Chief Joseph Trail, Indian Summer Village, Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Wednesday morning, June 12th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on Chief Joseph Trail in the Indian Summer Village development off of John J. Williams Highway.

Emergency response units included a full company response from Millsboro Fire Company with their Rescue and Engine; a full company response from Lewes with their Tanker and Engines; as well as Engine #80-3 and #80-5 from the Long Neck facility and Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial interior search as well as advancing fire suppression attack lines into the residential structure, garage area, as well as around the residential structure to mitigate the concerns at the rear porch and deck areas. Other assignments included water supply resources, scene preservation, and manpower resource pool coordination. Engine #80-3 arrived and activated two fire suppression lines and then was assisted with Engine #83-4 from Millsboro for water supply.

Initial responding units identified a heavy fire and smoke conditions at the rear of the residential structure with propane gas concerns from a grill. The residential occupants and family canine were out of the residence at the time arrival.

It was reported by the occupant of the residential structure that his dog alerted them to the incident.

The local emergency medical services provider assisted the residential occupants with providing oxygen to the family canine as well as helping the family feline recover from the stress associated with the incident.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the origin of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal will today try to determine what sparked a fire this morning in a mobile home in Indian Summer Village in Millsboro.

Firemen from Indian River, Millsboro and Lewes were call to Chief Joseph Trail just after 1 a.m.; arriving units found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home.

The occupants of the home and their dog and cat were able to escape; firemen did have to administer oxygen to the animals to help them recover from stress associated with the fire.

There were NO civilian or firefighter injuries.
