Boat Capsizes in Indian River Inlet - 4 persons rescued 

On Sunday, May 12th, the Indian River (80), Bethany Beach (70), Rehoboth Beach (86), and Millville (84) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a priority one water rescue incident in the area of the Indian River Inlet. The United States Coast Guard – Indian River and the Delaware State Police Aviation Units as well as the Delaware Natural Resources and Environment Control Marine Police were alerted of the incident as well. It was reported that a vessel capsized with four (4) confirmed persons in the water within the Indian River Inlet waterway.

Emergency response units from Indian River Volunteer Fire Company were to respond to Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp and prepare for launch to assist with the overall incident. Emergency response units included: Brush #80-0 with Marine 2 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as Utility #80-8 with Marine 1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility.

During the initial response phase of the incident, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center was in constant contact with the responding agencies and confirmed the synopsis of the incident.

The United States Coast Guard vessel was able to response and assist with the incident mitigation.  It is known that four (4) persons were located and retrieved from the water and were to be evaluated for medical concerns.

Indian River’s Marine Units were held at the launch area until confirmation was received via the Incident Command of the situation.

Coast Guard Rescues 4 After Boat Capsizes in Indian River Bay

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Four people were pulled from the water after a boating accident Sunday afternoon in Sussex County.

Coast Guard officials said they got the call at 3:20 p.m. for an overturned vessel in the Indian River Bay. Four people were on board and thrown into the water. The Coast Guard was able to rescue all four people.

According to the Coast Guard, no one was injured.

Coast Guard officials said alcohol was not a factor. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

4 Rescued After Boat Capsizes in Indian River Bay

Sunday wasn’t a good day on the Indian River Bay for four boaters.

Coast Guard officials and firemen from Indian River, Bethany Beach, Rehoboth Beach and Millville were called to the Indian River Inlet just after 3 p.m. for reports of four people thrown off a boat into the water.

The Coast Guard was able to rescue all four people; NO injuries were reported. And the Coast Guard says alcohol was NOT a factor.
