Monday March, 18 2013 Nature: Long Neck Boy Scout Troop Tours Indian River On Monday evening, March 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted the Long Neck Boy Scout Troop and provided a fire prevention discussion and tour of the fire house, apparatus and equipment. The intent of the event was to enhance awareness about fire prevention and safety measures as well as promote the volunteer fire service. Various discussion topics include methods of fire prevention that should be practiced as well as reviewing as well as reviewing the apparatus and identify the specific purpose and usage of the tools and equipment. Specific topics highlighted were: • Testing smoke detectors to ensure that they work - i.e., How to Test a Smoke Detector • Escape plans and having two ways out of the residence - i.e., http://www.usfa.fema.gov/campaigns/smokealarms/escapeplans/index.shtm • Firefighter gear familiarization; • Don’t be afraid of the firefighter - http://flashovertv.firerescue1.com/Clip.aspx?key=2B2AF33BF33372DF • Apparatus Purpose and Usage; and • Firefighter equipment familiarization. Each unit was viewed by the Boy Scouts which included an opportunity for questions and answers. |
