On Wednesday, March 6th, the as the latest nor’easter storm approached the Indian River fire district, the Indian River and surrounding fire companies prepared for many storm related incidents and alerts. On March 6th, Indian River received seven (7) storm related events that resulted in emergency response situations.

There were numerous wires and tree fallen incidents which included sometimes catching a vehicle and this was the incident on Layton Davis Road when a DART bus and telephone line came together and required an exterior evaluation by the fire company.

Numerous trees have fallen throughout the fire district causing fire crews, DELDOT and local residents to embark upon a collaborative effort to assist with tree removal and clean up

The Oak Orchard – Long Neck are encountered tidal flooding conditions that have been consistent with previous storms surges of the past years. The Delaware Department of Transportation did close some roadways within the fire district. There were a few motorist that chose to ignore the standing water conditions and attempted to pass thru resulting in emergency response alerts for water rescue alerts.

DELDOT did close sections of Oak Orchard Road, River Road and Chiefs Road due to tidal flooding conditions.  Other area roadways were restricted due to down powerlines, standing water, etc.

Additional information will follow but the Indian River fire district is doing well with the current conditions.
