Nature: Simulated Train Crash – Hazardous Materials “Training Exercise”

On Saturday, March 2nd, the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company hosted a training exercise that included a simulated vehicle crash involving two overturned vehicles and a train carting liquid propane gas.

The training exercise is coordinated via the Dagsboro (73) fire company and included the following fire companies: Frankford (76); Gumboro (79); Indian River (80); Laurel (81); Lewes (82); Millsboro (83); Millville (84); and Roxana (90) fire companies as well as the Sussex County Paramedics, LifeNet Aviation Units and the Delaware State Fire School.

The scenario involved two overturned vans and a train car that was leaking liquid propane gas.

These trainings were developed to identify best practices to address fire suppression, fire prevention, shutting off the values of the tank cars; vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, vehicle extrication, media and press relations, major incident operations, and many other evolutions and exercises.
